Nanki Mandarin Orange
The region of the Mie Nanki Agricultural Cooperative Association is warm with high rainfall: the perfect conditions for the cultivation of Satsuma mandarin oranges, which can be shipped earlier than those of other regions. Citrus fruit cultivation in this area is said to have begun in the 18th century. It developed into a full scale production area towards the end of the 19th century, and came to be known as a place of citrus fruit production in the mid-1920s. At present, the area produces Satsuma and many other kinds of citrus mandarins. Production, initiatives are taken based on quality, safety, security and the environment, such as examining the best cultivation method for the type of fruit, and making selection standards stricter.
